Proposal / Creation in progress
Pulling on the rope
Based on “La chèvre de Monsieur Seguin” from Alphonse Daudet
5 & 6 June 2025 > 3:00pm and 7:00pm
“ …Monsieur Seguin emporta la chèvre dans une étable toute noire, dont il ferma la porte à double tour.
Malheureusement, il avait oublié la fenêtre, et à peine eut-il le dos tourné, que la petite s’en alla… ”
Grandpa, my grandfather with whom I lived until the age of 6, couldn’t read or write.
But in the evenings, before going to bed, he would make me read the time, or tell me the story of Monsieur Seguin’s goat.
He remembered it very well.
I always believed, and still do now, that the mountain where Blanquette had fled was the mountain of my childhood, the one opposite my grandparents’ house, over there in Haute-Saône.
So I’d often ask Grandpa if we could go for a walk there, hoping to find traces of the little goat, looking along the way for clues to its presence, proof of its passage.
I knew by heart that the goat had been eaten by the wolf – in fact, that’s the end of the story.
And what kept me from being totally inconsolable at his death was the memory of his escape, his jubilation when he arrived on the hill, the beauty of the nature that welcomed him, and his encounter with love.
For this project, I wanted to echo Blanquette’s “mad” freedom.
In the end, Blanquette’s devouring is just another pretext to prevent us, young and old alike, from running free and frolicking in adventure.
